Baptism

| Baptism of Infants. Preparation classes
(two sessions of two hours each) are offered for parents of
infants and children through six years old. Godparents are
welcome to attend as well. These sessions involve a discussion
of the theological and spiritual meaning of the sacrament of
baptism and the implications that this meaning has for parents
and godparents. There is also time devoted to a consideration of
issues of religious development in early childhood. The
baptisms, being celebrations of a child’s initiation into the
Eucharistic community, ordinarily take place during Mass on the
first weekend of every month except July, August or Lent. During
July and August, Baptisms take place on the first Sunday after
the 9:00 a.m. Mass. There are no Baptisms during Lent. Lent
began as a time of preparation for Baptism. To register for the

Baptism of Older Children (7 years and older). Children
seven years and older are required to participate in a more
formal program modeled after our adult process of Christian
initiation. These children will be prepared to receive
sacraments of initiation at the Easter Vigil. |

| Baptism of Adults. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process of welcoming, forming, and catechizing new Catholics. It is also the process used for baptized Catholics who have not completed their sacraments of initiation: Confirmation and First Eucharist. Its goal is to foster and deepen the conversion of individuals and the entire community of believers.
